Wedded Bliss

Here are some of the memorable moments that have been floating across my consciousness during the past 48 hours, in no particular order:

Having all of my pre-ceremony jitters dissolve upon hearing your cheers and applause, and then having SO MUCH FUN up there; Todd Polenberg delivering the line "I am the Solemnizer" in a furry tuxedo and top hat; hearing "We Do!" ring loud and clear; Sanjukta Paul singing "30 Days in the Hole," encouraged by Jill Jorgensen; my dad's "wildest dreams" line, and then his beautiful speech; watching my parents dance together; James Elmendorf and Kristen Reeg's incredibly awesome poker chip pinata wedding gift; worrying about Morgan Fahey possibly being dead, because her phone was on the fritz and it is totally unlike her not to get back to you, and then having her show up to the center with the most amazing floral arrangements known to weddings; how amazing my sisters looked; "Go Hawkeyes!"; time and again noticing Albert Lowe and An Le quietly taking care of business all night long w/r/t organization and clean-up, because they kick ass; my sister Claire Hamilton's making fun of me in her speech by calling wedding cakes fascist in a British accent, and also all of her dance moves; Matt Messbarger's assertion that I had "cold eyes" in high school; Josh Kamensky's toast to partners in crime; Captain Automatic's encore performance, on ukulele, of my bachelorette party song; the O'Kelly Family ruling the dance floor; David Hammer doing the splits for us at the end of the night (he was on spirit squad in high school); the Hora; dancing to Sweet Caroline as the last song; hanging with Todd, Dan Braun, and Matt O'Malley until 5 in the morning; the fact that I left the tag on my wedding dress; cuddling with Holly Myers and Heather Joy at the after party; most of all, looking out over all of you gathered there, and realizing in a very profound way how blessed we are in family and friends. I so wish we could do it all again.

More thanks to come, from Jon and me. But in the meantime, what do you remember?

  1. It was actually "kohled" eyes but oh well. Best moments: my toast natch, realizing that you guys really do have an amazing group of friends and family - a testament to you and us both. Also, seeing your parents up there and realizing how much they should get credit for you. "Girls & Boys" felt very full-circle. Loved hearing "Wheel of Fortune" as your ceremonial exit song. Realizing Jon is actually really handsome (stick with that haircut). Seeing Claire. Seeing who you sat us with - I think we were the coolest table and it was obviously by design...Seeing Jill(!) there were many many more oh and seeing how Sex Dwarf totally cleared the dance floor except for me and Liz (that was my fault as I requested it).

  2. Oh my god, I had no idea that it was "kohled" and not "cold." That is actually even more funny. Boys and Girls was indeed an awesome moment--also, I believe Joe was Irish dancing to that at one point, which was also very awesome. And yes, you were at the cool kids table. I also like how you ended your toast with "...and Jon seems allright." That was a brilliant moment; I'm still laughing.

  3. First off, you were not at the most awesome table. Which table was that, I won't disclose... Second, this was A LOT of work, which I know you all appreciate, but you can't do this again until your 10th anniversary.

  4. Albert: the only way I would do this again is if I could use a time machine, because I am exhausted. And grant that the "most awesome" table is different than the "cool kids" table, okay?

  5. Practicing "Forever and a Day" with Leigh in the basement. Not knowing where the rings were, or that I had been relieved of responsibility for them. Goofing a few chords on "Forever and a Day" but it didn't matter. Searching for the gin. Getting the hand-across-throat-signal from Liz as the toasts went on. Hearing Sydney explain that he was born "down by the wharf" before there was a hospital there. Getting lit fast. Taking a moment as the dancing started to have some bubbles on the roof deck with Francis, Jake and Tim. Tossing you guys a handkerchief for the hora. Sarah: "This was the kind of person I wanted to meet in college." Petting Todd. Giving James a lap dance in the face at the after-party. Demonstrating to Holly how my ukulele was like your marriage. Jon's mom tearing up at brunch. You and Jon drinking up the toasts (well the first 20 min anyway) with wide-open faces. Michael zonked at the after-party. Dylan trying to eat a caramel.

  6. Wow, I had blocked the lap dance out of my mind. But yes, that was a moment.

  7. Oh, lord. I just saw this.

    A)you're both awesome.

    B)you're welcome.

C)it wasn't just me. It was ALL OF AT&T IN THE LOS ANGELES BASIN.

And that was one hell of a wedding weekend. Somehow, y'all conspired to make the Glendale Hyatt and the Eagle Rock Arts Center feel like a Full Weekend Destination Wedding, even though I slept in my own bed every damn night.
